SGPT
This is the acronym for Small Group Personal Training. SGPT is the most popular of classes at Terry’s and the one most first timers to the gym are encouraged to try first to ensure they are comfortable within the environment. Most Terry’s classes are SGPT and are quite popular. They are offered multiple times a day beginning at 5:00 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for those whose jobs require early office hours.
It is based on the Terry’s “time under tension” program in which all exercises are completed in timed increments. These vary from week to week so that no times are the same and muscle groups focused on are different every day of the week. Each class incorporates resistance training, agility, core, cardio, and upper and lower body.
SCULPT
Sculpt is an advanced class. This is also recommended for the more seasoned client. The program is based on muscular movement. It consists of three sets on each piece of equipment or with a set of dumbbells either 8, 12 or 15 repetitions.
Set repetition is entirely based on muscular movement, which is the similar theory behind most resistance training. The closest comparison would be a bodybuilding or powerlifting program.
The premise is to be able to lift a greater amount of weight over time when the repetition is lower, i.e., 8 reps. When weights are lowered, reps should increase to 12 or 15. Sculpt is considered an advanced class; however, many of Terry’s clients are able to participate after 3 months of three times per week of consistent workouts. Class size is limited to twelve or fewer people.
CARDIO BLAST
Cardio Blast is one of Terry’s most difficult classes. It is recommended for seasoned clients who have been at the gym at least six months and regularly attend classes a minimum of three times per week. It is an intensive session with no breaks in between exercises. Participants must be in excellent shape and able to withstand non-stop activity.
The class consists of core cardio exercises which target all parts of the body. Students primarily use mats. The premise for Cardio Blast is to get the heart rate up while incorporating full body muscle resistance. This is accomplished with medicine balls, weights, and kettle balls.
You are guaranteed to leave this class exhausted, but with a sense of tremendous accomplishment and ready to face the week ahead.
